About the studio

We make images that arrive as one object.

Assembly is a small image studio working at the edge of photography and generative craft. Every piece is built the same way the gallery is: many parts, flying in from different depths, settling into a single composed frame that holds together at rest.

The studio

A composed object, never a pile that stacks up.

We started in a single room above a print shop on Rua da Boavista, making portraits for musicians who could not afford a crew. The constraint became the method. Fewer lights, longer looks, one idea per frame, and a stubborn refusal to hand over anything that only works as a thumbnail.

Seven years on, the work spans portraiture, macro studies, celestial landscapes and generative pieces built frame by frame. The tools changed. The standard did not: an image should read as one object arriving, and it should still be alive when it comes to rest.

How we work

Four rules the work has to clear.

01

Depth before decoration

Every frame is built on one clear idea and a real sense of distance. If a piece needs an effect to survive, the idea was not finished.

02

Alive at rest

A still image should still breathe. We grade for the second and third look, not the first scroll past it.

03

One clock, one hand

Direction, capture, grade and delivery stay inside the studio. Nothing is passed down a chain until the intent has worn off.

04

Restraint as a colour

Warm golden hour, cool celestial blue, and the space between them. No neon, no noise, nothing that dates by next season.

Portraiture

Editorial, album and campaign portraits, shot in studio or on location.

Celestial studies

Long-form landscape and night work, composed across multiple exposures.

Macro

Close-range studies of the eye, skin, water and glass for title and cover work.

Generative

Directed generative pieces, graded and finished to sit beside photographic work.

Motion and sound

Short loops and title sequences cut with composers we have worked with for years.

A short history

Seven years, one standard.

  1. 2019

One room above a print shop

Assembly opens with two people, one borrowed light and a waiting list of musicians.

  2. 2021

    The macro series

Iris and Aperture are picked up for a festival identity and travel to eleven cities.

  3. 2023

    Celestial work begins

Nocturne and Halo are shot across four nights in the Serra da Estrela, then graded for six weeks.

  4. 2026

    Assembly, the gallery

The full archive is composed into a single moving wall, built to be turned, opened and read.
